Avoid Junk Food at Work

Tips How to Avoid Junk Food at Work

We all fall victim to eating junk food at work; virtually no one is immune. In my clinical practice as a nurse practitioner, my office is constantly being bombarded with cookies, cakes and candy every day of the week. I imagine yours is too. So if you want to get off the junk food merry-go-round and improve your health--I have a few suggestions that may be helpful.

•1
Manage your junk food intake or let it ruin your health. The choice is really yours! Totally avoiding eating any junk food is only for those of us with Superman-like strength and willpower. Sadly, if we totally abstain we may end up overeating and consuming way more junk food then we would have had in the first place. So at the beginning of the day, allocate a predetermined amount of junk food you will allow yourself. (Some days you may not feel like having any and cheer yourself on!).

•2
Do not make a big deal or announce your plan to avoid/limit junk food. You will be setting yourself up for peer pressure, office jokes and endless monitoring by your coworkers of what you eat. You are doing this for YOU.

•3
Look at your body in the mirror totally naked (I know this is hard for some of us, but is really essential). First list what you LIKE about your body and then what you feel needs improvement. Don't be shy--this list is for your eyes only. Write down the truth.

•4
There are plenty of eHow articles on nutrition, building muscle and working out. Read them if you need to refresh your knowledge base. Determine what your goals and nutrition needs are and fit in a "junk food allowance." Remember, just because you give yourself permission to have some junk food, there are simply going to be days you will not want or crave any. Rejoice privately!

•5
Keep a stash of healthy snacks in your office. Before you go get that cup of coffee or take a bathroom break, eat some raisins or other healthy snacks before finding the junk food glaring up at you.

•6
Write down your junk food intake each day and the reason why you felt compelled to eat it. Sometimes it is as simple as the person who brought the cake is an excellent baker and you knew it would be wonderful! Other times, and most often, it will be stress, boredom or peer pressure. Now you have to figure out how to handle these differently.

•7
Most importantly: don't beat yourself up if you had a bad day and ate a lot more junk food then you anticipated. It is "progress, not perfection" that should be your goal.

Push Up Bras

Choose Push-Up Bras

Push-up bras are designed to lift the breasts and enhance the bustline, increasing cleavage for a more voluptuous look. Push-up bras often contain underwiring and padding that helps create the appearance of larger breasts and more pronounced cleavage. These bras are considered the modern-day answer to old-fashioned corsets, which women also used to increase the appearance of cleavage. Unlike corsets, however, push-up bras are comfortable and won't restrict your breathing.

1
Choose a push-up bra that is comfortable. Some push-up bras contain strong metal or plastic underwires that can dig into the skin and cause discomfort. Cotton push-up bras with soft padding are typically the most comfortable.

2
Choose a push-up bra that fits well. Get fitted by a store associate to determine your exact size. She will use a measuring tape to measure your bust and help you find the bra that will provide the best fit.

3
Choose a push-up bra style that works well with your particular outfit. Push-up bras come in all types of styles including strapless, racerback, one-strap and demi cup. A strapless bra works best with a strapless gown or tube top, for instance, while a demi-cup bra looks best with a low-cut V-neck blouse.

4
Choose a push-up bra based on its support. Some push-up bras are padded with air, water or simply extra cushioning, while others have underwires that create the look of a push-up without the padding. Some women find the padding excessive and prefer underwires, while others find underwires uncomfortable.

5
Choose a push-up bra that appeals to your aesthetic tastes. Push-up bras come in a wide variety of designs and styles; some are simple, while others are intricately embellished with lace or beads. Simple styles are best for under t-shirts or fitted tops for a seamless look.

Cleaning Your House

Clean a House With Homemade Remedies

With the shape of the economy these days-people are trying to save as much money as they can-and home remedies are a great way to do it. You can keep your home clean and fresh without spending much money or smelling those harsh toxins in cleaning products. Here are some easy cleaning remedies-with ingredients that you may already have at home!

1

Use dish detergent to mop your floors. Start by mixing 2 tablespoons of detergent into 1 gallon of water. This mixture will give your floors a shiny surface that is easy to rinse (I also like to add scented fragrance to the mop water to get rid of odors). Try using this to clean your windows also, and wipe with dryer sheets to avoid lint.

2

Soak 4 cups of thyme in 1 gallon of water for several days to get rid of that icky mildew that sticks to your bathtub and sinks. Use this mixture and scrub down the area. Toothpaste is also a good ingredient to bleach your bathroom tiles and sinks.

3

Immerse a damp cloth in white vinegar to wipe any chrome surfaces clean. You can also soak any chrome items in the vinegar. A baking soda and water mixture is also great on chrome surfaces and ovens. To clean an oven, scrub it with baking soda and water. Leave the cleaning solution overnight and wipe clean the next day.

4

Spray denture cleaner all over the toilet bowl and leave overnight to get rid of all the germs that collect. Scrub the bowl with a brush the next day. You can also drop three Vitamin C capsules in the bowl.

5

Freshen a room with your own air freshener. Besides mopping your floor with scented water, you can also create homemade air fresheners. Saturate a ball of cotton with your favorite scent and put it in an open container or put scented oil on your light bulbs (the heat from the bulbs will create a fragrance in the air). You can also put it in the vacuum cleaner bag while you vacuum. For a clean, outdoor scent, immerse spruce tree cones in water for 24 hours. Boil for 2 hours and put it in a humidifier. Another way to bring a natural scent to your kitchen is to boil grapefruit, lemon and oranges and let it simmer for an hour.

6

Polish and protect your furniture by creating your own polish. Mix 1 teaspoon of olive oil and ½ cup of lemon juice. Put mixture in a spray bottle, spray and wipe with a dry cloth. Another way to create furniture polish is by mixing 1 tablespoon of lemon oil with 4 cups of mineral oil.

It's Simple!

How To Tweeze Your Brows

Which Tweezer?

Thin Tip: Good for grasping small, fine hairs, and plucking ingrown hair.
Slanted Tip: Gives maximum control.
Square Tip: Best used for removing coarse hairs or several hairs at a time.

1. Tweeze immediately after showering or apply a hot washcloth to loosen hair follicles.
2.Hold a pencil vertically along the side of the nose. Eyebrow should start at outside edge if pencil - Anastasia Soare eyebrow queen.
Hint: Leaving a bit more space will widen close-set eyes.
3.Hold pencil to outside of eye. This is where the eyebrow of a bombshell should end.
4.Smooth brows with a little moisturizer to help hairs slide out - turn back the clock.
5.Brush brows up to find a natural arch.
6. Draw in the desired shape beforehand with a soft eye shadow pencil - Keira Knightley smokey eyes.
Hint: Don't use an eyeliner pencil. It will cause you to pluck too much.
7.Tweeze under the brow first, plucking in the direction of the growth.
Hint: If your plucking becomes too painful, apply a little anbesol (yes, that pain reliever for teeth also numbs the brows)
8.Using an eyelash comb, comb brows upwards and trim any hairs that extend beyond the natural top or brow bone. Glamorous lashes.
9.After tweezing, soothe the area with cool, wet tea bags.

Manage Your Blood Sugar While Drinking

Holiday parties are just as big a part of the season as ole' Tannenbaum and partridges in pear trees. And the one thing that makes these seasonal parties such a hit? Alcohol, and lots of it.

Alcohol has long been a staple at holiday parties, from hearty eggnog and spiced cider to neon-colored mixed concoctions and the traditional brewskie. But, with so many alcoholic drinks available and being enjoyed, it can be easy to forget about the effects the drinks are having on your body.

Besides causing the well-known effect of drunkenness, alcohol wreaks havoc upon the body's blood sugar, which can pose serious health problems for someone who lives with diabetes or who takes certain prescription medications.

Alcohol not only lowers blood glucose levels over the long term, but mixed drinks with their high sugar content can cause a sharp spike in blood glucose levels, which can be just as dangerous to a person with diabetes.

Research shows that shortly after drinking (and up to 12 hours later) the body can enter a state of hypoglycemia. For diabetics, the symptoms of hypoglycemia can be nearly identical to that of being drunk - disorientation, sleepiness and dizziness. One of the biggest concerns is that friends and family often are unable to discern the difference between someone who had a little too much to drink and someone who is in a medically dangerous situation. The amount of alcohol a diabetic drinks is important to monitor because, according to the American Diabetes Association, the body needs about one hour to break down a single ounce of alcohol.

Therefore, it's up to the individual to learn how to manage their own blood sugar while drinking.

Contrary to common belief, most diabetics don't need to strictly avoid alcoholic beverages. Today's research indicates that many diabetics can drink a moderate amount of alcohol without risk of compromising their health. That said, there are certain things they need to keep in mind when drinking to keep their blood sugar level in a safe area. Of course, anyone who has diabetes should always consult their doctor before drinking alcohol as they may have specific reasons for avoiding it.
